FGMK Welcomes New Estate and Succession Planning Tax Partner and Promotes Four Directors to the Firm

Chuck Schultz III recently joined FGMK as a Tax Partner in the firm’s Estate and Succession Planning practice. He is a licensed CPA and attorney with more than 30 years of experience in providing sophisticated international and domestic estate, income and business tax planning services for high-net-worth individuals, owners of closely held businesses and family offices. 

Chuck is a frequent presenter and author, providing guidance on a number of important tax topics faced by taxpayers today. Recently, he delivered a presentation to the Chicago Estate Planning Counsel regarding international tax planning. Chuck also provided guidance at the 2016 AICPA National Tax Conference on estate and trust tax planning strategies.

Prior to joining FGMK, Chuck was a Washington National Tax Partner at RSM US, supporting the Private Client Service Group.  Before that, he served as National Tax Director at the Washington, D.C. office of Coopers & Lybrand, as Senior Tax Manager at Deloitte & Touche in Chicago; and as Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Allstate Financial Services, and Allstate Financial Advisors.  

Chuck served as an adjunct faculty member at the Georgetown University School of Law and has hosted a daily radio tax topic program on WPGC FM in Washington, D.C.

Mike Knapstein was recently promoted from Senior Manager to Director. Mike provides accounting, assurance, business advisory and tax planning services to closely held and private equity owned middle-market companies. Mike’s industry experience includes professional service firms, manufacturing, distribution, information technology, Software-as-a-Service, healthcare, real estate, securities brokers and dealers, and employee benefit plans. Mike began his career with FGMK right after college as an associate in the audit practice.

Bob Norris was recently promoted from Senior Manager to Director. Bob has more than 15 years of experience providing audit and assurance services to middle-market companies, both public and private. His industry expertise includes manufacturing, service and investment companies.  He has extensive technical experience with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Public Company Oversight Board (PCAOB) rules and regulations. Prior to joining FGMK, Bob worked as an audit manager at BDO and as an audit senior manager at Plante Moran.

Dean Pearson was recently promoted from Senior Manager to Director. Dean is a Director in FGMK’s State and Local Tax practice and exclusively handles multi-tax issues.  He regularly assists clients during state and local audit examinations, administrative appeals, and other state and local tax controversies. In addition to recommending strategies for minimizing clients’ state and local tax liabilities, Dean also performs state and local tax compliance and refund studies, credit and incentive consulting, analyzes merger, acquisition and disposition planning, and reviews tax returns.  He focuses on a variety of industries, including professional services, technology, retail, manufacturing, distribution, construction, real estate, healthcare, and financial services.  Dean has more than 12 years of public accounting experience serving a diverse client base that conducts business in every state and most cities. Prior to joining FGMK, Dean was a regional practice leader at a national firm for multi-state tax in Chicago.  Prior to that, Dean was a manager in a multi-state practice of a Big Four firm in Chicago.

Jenny Skokun was recently promoted from Senior Manager to Director. Jenny joined FGMK in 2016 with over fifteen years in public accounting, practicing predominately in the areas of high-net-worth individuals, family groups, and closely-held businesses.   Jenny’s expertise includes individual and business tax compliance and planning, attestation and accounting services, and business advisory services. During Jenny’s career, she has become known for taking a personal interest in her clients and prides herself on consistently exceeding their expectations. Her ultimate goal is to be her clients’ go-to person for all accounting, tax, and financial matters to help them achieve their goals. Jenny’s industry expertise includes high-net-worth individuals and entrepreneurs, investment companies, retail, and real estate.
